History

Al-Haneen began in 2004 by practicing in the home of a generous community member.  It has grown and evolved since that time and now practices as an official group on the campus of the University of Arizona.  The founder trained in Palestine and in Boston under the tutelage of Lina Harami and the Sirreyet Ramallah group for music and dance.  Other trainers include Ayham Ashouly, who won the title of best dabeek in the Gulf countries, Hani Ghazi of the Sirreye, and Layth Saleh, our current trainer who performed with and trained the Al-Hannouneh in Jordan.  Al-Haneen has performed extensively in Tucson and Phoenix and flew to Milwaukee to perform for Arab World Fest in 2007.  Al-Haneen has also taught dabke to local school and to the Tucson community at large.
